Sorry. Should have done some research first

Thanks JWS.
Finally, you realize that its all a bit hollow! Why did we go?
first of all , may i wish you all a happy new year.. in response to obaracs earlier thread, i think it would be amusing to list all the dc themes that we can remember.. it would be interesting to compile them in excel and amusing to see the irony in them over the decades.. so what themes do you recall, and from what year?.

i have family members who are still jws, many of you do as well.
assuming your folks are similar to mine, they are, for the most part, rational.
they are jws because they believe and they have a tremendous amount of scriptural knowledge, albeit of wts origins and with the expected bias.. if i chose to demonstrate, to my father particularly, the inconsistencies in wts ideology... he might just decide to leave.
CC, you say:
He said that this [JW life] is what he's done his entire life and he didn't know what sort of person he'd be without it.
My mother is the same, and I think I can understand it ( she is quite old): for many, its easier to stay in, rather than face the uncertainty of life ( with all of its rewards), starting out all over. Also to have to admit that they have wasted a large portion of their precious life. They are afraid. Period. They dont have the character to leave, so they dont want to hear anything that makes them uneasy. Typical ostrich stuff.
i didn't think i would ever do xmas but i must say that i kinda got into it and it turned out really nice for a virgin..
Merry Christmas everybody.
in 1939 hilter(evil) invaded poland and killed approx.16.5% of the pop.. what about jehovah god.in his history book the bible.see deut.ch, 2&3.. he punished his nation israel for 40 yrs because they choose (free will) not to enter the promise land.. notice deut.2;34 what happened to the cities of king sihon of heshbon.we(jehovah) completely destroyed(extirpate, exterminated) the people in every city-the men.women.and children.we (jehovah) did not leave anyone alive.. later in deut.3;6- 60 cities in the area of argob(og's kingdom in bashan) we (jehovah)completely destroyed(raze) every city and all the people in them, even the women and the babies.
(really sick).. many will use the excuse, that god had to destroy them to prevent problems for his people such as idolatry, etc.yeah right kill babies, just like hilter killed the jews.. and they say read the bible and mediate on all the killings.no thank-you.

His answer was that god ordered one and not the other. Chilling!
Just like many war criminals pleaded:
" I was only following orders".
i have read the phrase "the borg" over and over again....what is it's real meaning?
still a newbie here.
this is the 1st site i've joined since i left about 4 years ago, so i'm still picking up on the lingo.......
I believe the ex-mormons dote their ex organisation with the name the Morg.
i still feel the need to worship and the desire for faith, but having been raised as a jw and not knowing anything else, i just feel confused and lost as far as faith goes.
sometimes i think that maybe their isn't a god, i just don't know......
One of our posters here is Lunatic Faith.
I quite like one of her citations:
A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything." (Friedrich Nietzsche / 1844-1900)

I just love the way they put in the presentations
[Allow for response.]
in other words, give them a chance to speak.... but dont listen and dont take their view into account.
How patronising
this question is different from what made you leave.. as for me, i wanted to take one step further, to be more involved in the organization, but i had some very old small doubts, about other religions, so i started my liberal study on religion, i read books from other churchs to reffute them, but in fact created more doubts about the org..
For me it was just logic. Once I took the time to think about things we believed, I realized that it was ridiculous.
Then I realized my life was passing by, and since this is all there is, I'd better get on with enjoying it.
At the time there was a song by the Beautiful South, which marked me:
"I want my sundrenched Ingred Burgman kiss,
not in the next life,
I want it in this, I want it in this. "
dear drinkers:.
beer buzzes me but wine does not speak to me .... can you speak from personal experience?.
scientif studies welcomes if you have no epxperience.. cocoo.
I have been drunk after drinking too much beer and after drinking too much wine.
At that particular moment, I dont recall having noticed too much difference.
